ART Engineering Inc. was retained by Petra Realty Ltd. to act as engineer of record for the structural design of the one-story commercial unit located at 2467 Princess Street in Kingston, Ontario.

The design included shallow grade beam footings insulated against frost heave, a structural steel frame as the primary system, along with wood joists and infill studs.

ART Engineering Inc. was retained by Aecon Construction Materials and Demolition Plus to provide structural engineering sevices for various aspects of the Quinte Skyway Bridge Project. The 850-meter-long multi-span bridge spans over a navigable waterway and is currently undergoing a major rehabilitation over a seven year period. The rehabilitation includes a full superstructure replacement and refacing/rehabilitation of the concrete piers.

ART Engineering Inc. was the only prequalified engineering firm, chosen from a list of design firms across the country, to engineer one of the largest and most complex scaffold systems ever constructed in Canada. The system incorporated many unique geometrical shapes and design challenges which included maintaining public access using aesthetic hoarding through the gallery interior, as well as ensuring the access scaffold followed an artist’s conception of a trapezoidal iceberg.

ART Engineering Inc. has been commissioned by multiple contracting companies to act as a structural engineering consultant for the Ottawa Light Rail Transit (OLRT) project. Arguably the most important infrastructure project in Ottawa's recent history, the OLRT project will improve the transportation system in the nation's capital by allowing trains to travel through the downtown core, while improving the existing infrastructure to support the new system.

We have provided specific finite element models of the original Lees Avenue structure, Riverside Drive structure, Hurdman Rideau River structure, and the East Transit Way structure. Each analysis was organized to accurately model non-traditional loading cases (rapid transportation of one bridge over another) or demolition tasks.

Lansdowne Park was transformed into a greener, more modern urban park, basing it's plan on the smart growth principles of urban planning. It is one of the largest recently completed redevelopment projects in Ottawa. Mixing recreation, commerce, relaxation, and residential spaces, the project involved the design of a large variety of new structures and heritage fit-ups.

The Canadian High Arctic research Station (CHARS) is a centre for science and technology in the Canadian North, located in Cambridge Bay, Nunavut.

With the goal of becoming a world-class institute for science and learning, the federally funded station aims to engage the local Inuit community, integrating cultural knowledge with cutting-edge technology. The centre will house advanced laboratories, workshops, and a knowledge sharing centre. These will promote and preserve the local culture and engage scientists from around the world. 

ART Engineering Inc. was retained by Ottawa Valley Solar to provide structural engineering consulting services, making possible the integration of solar panels as an alternative source of energy for farms, residences, and commercial institutions.

Canadian High Arctic Research Station

ART Engineering Inc. was retained by ConCreate USL Ltd. and later Horseshoe Hill Construction Inc. to provide structural consulting services for the construction of the Vimy Memorial Bridge. The bridge has recently been awarded with the prestigious Gustav Lindenthal Medal at the International Bridge Conference, recognizing its aesthetic qualities and harmony with its surrounding environment. Constructed adjacent to the bridge location, the structure was transported across a temporary bridge for its final installation. As such, various temporary structure designs and services were required.

Vimy Memorial Bridge

To accommodate an average annual growth of 40%, ART Engineering Inc. engineers took it upon themselves to design their own custom office space after purchasing a local parcel of land. The 6000 sqft commercial building was designed and facilitated entirely by ART Engineering Inc., including all construction management, structural and architectural design packages, mechanical and electrical layouts. the result was a robust design including features such as structurally insulated roof panels, and radiant heated concrete slabs, exceeding Canadian code requirements.

The existing Otter Creek Bridge consisted of a deteriorated concrete superstructure, which required a sensible and practical replacement. AEI's scope of work included all field investigation works, coordination of topographic surveys, geotechnical investigations, and underwater investigations. As part of the superstructure replacement design, existing foundations were to remain but required rehabilitation to ensure the structure was compliant with current codes.

Otter Creek Bridge Superstructure Replacement

This 90 year old concrete arch structure required renewal which respected it’s heritage value and addressed it’s significant deterioration. AEI's scope of work included a topographic survey, geotechnical investigation, hydrological assessments. A specialized geotechnical program was instituted and a structural corrugated steel plate pipe arch liner was designed, complete with new footings bearing on rock, which met the requirements of the crossing and allowed the client to phase capital costs over several funding cycles.

AEI was selected as the preferred proponent for the replacement design and contract administration for three (3) culverts located in Oshawa, ON.

ART Engineering Inc. was retained by J. Shaver & Associates as part of the 3 Apple Street restoration project, located in Brockville, Ontario. The eight-story multi-unit condominium building has undergone extensive rehabilitation in recent years.

ART Engineering Inc. was retained by Doornekamp Construction Ltd. as the structural engineer responsible for the restoration of the existing limestone walls at 9 North Street in Kingston, ON, as well as the structural design of a new interior support system for the apartment building.

Queen City Apartment Building Project

ART Engineering Inc. was retained by Inflector Environmental Services to provide structural engineering services for the construction of a multi-unit residential structure for students. The existing property consists of two (2) three-story brick masonry residential structures. The new residential tower is being constructed adjacent to the existing buildings which are to remain and be part of the new building. AEI’s scope of work included a demolition plan/procedure of the three-story addition on two residential buildings and the design of a temporary lateral restraint system of the existing interior wall to remain.

Queens University Residence Building

ART Engineering Inc. has been retained by Home Base Housing Corporation as the structural engineer of record for the design and construction review of a six-story youth services building, as part of a second phase development. The initial phase of the project included the retrofit of an existing three-story building (AEI was also the structural consultant on this portion). The proposed construction includes the design of a two-story podium reinforced concrete structure and an additional four-story modular build.

Kingston Youth Hub - Phase 2

ART Engineering Inc. was retained by Shoalts and Zaback Architects. Inc. as the structural engineer of record for the design and construction review of a three (3) story apartment building located at 27 Wright Crescent in Kingston, Ontario. The structure consists predominantly of light frame construction supplemented by concrete masonry unit cores and fire separation. Once completed, the 40 unit apartment building will provide the community with 10 rent-geared-to-income units and 13 affordable housing units.

ART Engineering Inc. was retained by the United Counties of Prescott and Russell to perform a Building Condition Assessment (BCA) and Capital Fund Study (CFS) of three storage domes and three garage/shed structures located throughout the United Counties. As part of the BCAs, the foundation, superstructure, building envelope, roof, interior, construction and finishes, life safety systems, elevators, mechanical systems, electrical systems and site components were inspected at each building, and a list of recommendations for future capital fund allocations was made based on the findings.
