Drafting Technician

We are currently seeking a Drafting Technician to join our design team in Ottawa, ON! Reporting to the department manager, you will apply your engineering knowledge to a wide range of projects through computer-aided design (CAD) and drawings.

Established in 2004, ART Engineering Inc. [AEI] is a multi-disciplinary structural engineering consulting firm established in Ottawa, Ontario - with branch offices also located in Kingston and Milton, Ontario. AEI provides a wide variety of engineering services to its clients Canada wide, ranging from residential and commercial applications, to industrial and heavy civil construction projects. We are a dynamic group of young, energetic engineers in a fast-paced and constantly growing company.

Responsibilities / Duties:

  • Draft structural drawings, engineering designs and related technical information;
  • Use computer aided design systems (CAD) to create drawings for building construction;
  • Research and obtain standards and codes required by client to develop plans;
  • Take direction from engineers and senior management to research drawings, catalogs and sketches to develop detailed dimensioned AutoCAD drawings;
  • Filling design drawings according to codes and specifications for the design;
  • Work directly in support of junior and senior engineers to cultivate specific designs required.

Skills / Attributes:

  • Diploma in Civil Engineering Technology from an accredited college or university (or equivalent experience);
  • Must be very precise, creative and detail-oriented;
  • Knowledge and understanding of relevant local standards and codes is an asset (OBC, NBCC, MTO Manuals, etc.);
  • High or expert level of proficiency in AutoCAD;
  • High level of proficiency in MS Office (Outlook, Word, Excel);
  • Excellent time management, organizational, communication skills;
  • Valid ‘G’ driver’s license and access to personal vehicle for travel to project sites;
