Empower Global, a registered Canadian charity aiming to transform the impoverished to empowered through the delivery of high impact community development programs, has undertaken the creation of a training facility for trades in Cap Haitien, Haiti. The facility will help the local Haitian population to gain professional skills, as well as provide a center for learning focused on promoting positive economic and social stimulation in the community.
ART Engineering Inc. partnered with EllisDon (the primary contractor) to provide pro-bono structural engineering services for the successful completion of the project. Our services included:
Computer modeling and structural analysis of structure.
Design and specifications for the manufacturing of steel roof trusses.
Connection and bracing details.
In further partnership with Empower Global, ART Engineering Inc. has taken on the design of a Medical Clinic in Gambade, Haiti. The project was proposed in order to provide basic medical care for a community of over 20,000 Haitians with limited hospital access. The medical clinic will aim to reduce the infant-under 5 mortality rate, increase the life expectancy of women, and prevent avoidable disease, in addition to several other services and goals.
ART Engineering Inc. has been tasked with the complete design of the clinic, from foundations to finishes, making special considerations for the importance of the structure, the regional seismic activity, and climate.
