Canadian High Arctic Research Station

The Canadian High Arctic Research Station (CHARS) is a center for science and technology in the Canadian north, located in Campbridge Bay, Nunavut.

With the goal of becoming a world-class institute for science and learning, the federally funded station aims to engage the local Inuit community, integrating cultural knowledge with cutting edge technology. The center will house advanced laboratories, workshops, and a knowledge sharing center to promote and preserve the local culture, engaging scientists from around the globe.

ART Engineering Inc. has been retained by EllisDon to provide various structural engineering services, requiring special considerations for the high arctic building conditions at the proposed site, including the design of deep foundations and additional high arctic structures supported in permafrost regions.
AEI services included:

Piling procedure;
Concrete mix design;
Field maintenance stair towers and QVE;
Piling shop drawing reviews;
Foundation wall shoring;
Slab formwork designs;
