National Gallery of Canada

Location: 380 Sussex Drive, Ottawa, ON

Completion: Fall 2013

ART Engineering Inc. was the only prequalified engineering firm, chosen from a list of design firms from across the country, to engineer one of the largest and most complex scaffold systems ever constructed in Canada. The system incorporated many unique geometrical and design challenges which included maintaining public access using aesthetic hoarding through the gallery interior, as well as ensuring the access scaffold followed an artist's conception of a trapezoidal iceberg. The project required the preparation of the following items:

Design of both the interior & exterior Total System Access Scaffold (TSS).
Steel framing designs (steel beams).
TSS individual segment designs.
Extensive wind bracing designs.
Cladding anchorage designs.
Permanent roof anchorage review, installation and certification.

We consider ourselves the scaffolding experts. Having completed scaffolding designs and inspections of varying size and complexity, at ART Engineering Inc. we pride ourselves in allowing clients to perform their work quickly, safely, and economically.

Companies Involved:
Access Rigging Services Inc. and Carillion Canada Inc.
